Terms of use

ReconStar is a planning aid for viewing the night sky. It combines calculations and third-party condition data; it cannot promise clear weather, visibility, access or safety.

1. Operator and agreement

ReconStar is provided by StarSpun Labs Ltd, company number 17372613, registered in England and Wales. Its registered office is Office 9267OC, 182-184 High Street North, Area 1/1, East Ham, London, E6 2JA, United Kingdom.

By downloading or using ReconStar, you agree to these terms and the rules of the Apple App Store or Google Play from which you obtained it. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

2. What ReconStar provides

ReconStar Free provides the complete current observing-night report within one selected ten-mile Free Sky Area. The selected area may be changed once every 90 days. ReconStar Pro unlocks future dates, locations outside that area, two-place comparisons, trips, multiple saved places, the full historical night-light comparison and automatic monitoring of up to five places. The actual connected-weather range never exceeds the current provider horizon; later dates are identified as astronomy-only.

Features, sources and scoring methods may change to improve reliability or comply with provider terms. We will describe material changes through release notes or another appropriate notice.

3. Safe and lawful use

• Use forecasts and scores as guidance, not as emergency, navigation, aviation, marine or professional safety information.
• Check official weather warnings, access restrictions, landowner rules, road conditions and local emergency advice.
• Never look directly at the Sun without correctly fitted, certified solar-viewing equipment. Ordinary sunglasses, cameras and telescopes without proper solar filters are unsafe.
• Do not trespass, drive while using the app, or place yourself or others at risk to view an event.
• Do not probe, overload, reverse engineer where prohibited, bypass rate limits or use the connected service to harm others.

4. Forecasts, alerts and availability

ReconStar combines on-device astronomical calculations with third-party weather, space-weather and satellite-derived data. Forecasts, scores and alerts are estimates, not guarantees. Source data may be delayed, unavailable or inaccurate, and local conditions can change quickly. Check local conditions and official weather or safety warnings before travelling. ReconStar is not intended for aviation, navigation, emergency response or other safety-critical decisions. Notification delivery depends on the device, operating system, network and push providers. Quiet hours, thresholds and frequency controls can suppress an alert.

The offline core may continue when connected services are unavailable, but no feature is guaranteed to be uninterrupted. The status page explains which features depend on a network, provider or app store.

5. Pro subscriptions and legacy purchases

ReconStar Pro is offered as a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. The store shows the exact localised price, billing period and any applicable tax before purchase. Payment is charged to the selected Apple App Store or Google Play account. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled through that store before the end of the current billing period. Restore purchases uses the same store account. The store handles payment, cancellation and refunds under its rules and applicable law. There is no launch free trial or introductory offer. A genuine earlier Lifetime Pro purchase remains recognised for the supported life of the app; no new lifetime purchase is offered.

6. Privacy and third-party material

The Privacy notice explains local storage, coarse connected location and pseudonymous alert registrations. Source data, software and attributions remain subject to their respective licences and terms; see Sources and licences. References to source providers do not imply their endorsement of ReconStar.

If a user deliberately searches for a postcode or address in the installed app, Apple or Google's platform location service may process that search under its own terms. ReconStar also provides an offline town and city search that does not use that platform lookup.

7. Intellectual property and feedback

StarSpun Labs and its licensors retain rights in the app, branding, interface and original content. You retain rights in information you lawfully provide. If you send optional alert usefulness feedback, you permit StarSpun Labs to use it to operate and improve the service without identifying you by account, because no account is created.

8. Suspension and ending use

You may stop using the app and delete app-held data at any time. StarSpun Labs may restrict connected access to protect the service, respond to abuse, comply with law or end an unsupported feature. Where reasonably possible, material service changes will be announced through release notes or the status page.

9. Warranties and liability

ReconStar is supplied subject to all non-excludable rights. To the extent the law permits, it is provided without a promise that forecasts, scores, alerts or source data will always be accurate or available. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Applicable law and disputes

These terms do not remove any mandatory rights or legal protections available where you live. Any dispute may be brought before a court or dispute body that applicable consumer law permits.

11. Contact and changes

We may update these terms when ReconStar, its providers or legal requirements change. The date above will change when we publish a revised version. Written legal correspondence may be sent to StarSpun Labs Ltd at the registered office shown in section 1.
